PARC’s Annual Playwrights’ Colony

January 05, 2017

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS for the 2017 PARC PLAYWRIGHTS’ COLONY

MAY 7 – 21, 2017

Playwrights Atlantic Resource Centre (PARC) will be hosting the 2017 PARC Playwrights’ Colony from May 7 to 21 in Sackville, New Brunswick on the Mount Allison University campus.

The annual Playwrights’ Colony, PARC’s flagship program, is a two week long playwrights’ residency open to emerging and established playwrights in Atlantic Canada. At the Colony, eight to ten playwrights from across the Atlantic region will have an opportunity to develop a new script. The Colony offers the most intensive writing opportunity for playwrights in this region. It provides playwrights with the time to write, reflect and develop their work in a supportive and a nurturing environment. Writers benefit from the one-on-one assistance of a professional dramaturge and the expertise of a professional company of experienced workshop actors (during the second week of the colony).

Playwrights may submit an application for the Colony with a completed draft of a script, a partially completed work in progress, a synopsis or a previously completed script.

The playwright must be a playwriting member of PARC, whose membership dues are up to date. For more information on becoming a member of PARC, go to the website at: www.playwrightsatlantic.ca

The submission must include:

•A $20 submission fee to be sent by mail to the PARC Script Library, Crabtree Bldg B 10 & 11, Mount Allison University, 49A York Street, Sackville, NB E4L 1C7) or paid on-line through PayPal on the PARC website.

•A cover letter indicating what the playwright hopes to accomplish at the Colony and any other information about the script in terms of previous development, upcoming plans for production, previous productions, stage of development, or if the play has been commissioned.

•A short bio or resume for the playwright outlining previous experience (unless the playwright is already a long standing and well known member of PARC or with previous experience at the Colony).

•A synopsis of the script/project with sample scenes and/or a complete draft of the script.

•The application, including synopsis, sample scenes and/or script must be sent by e-mail to programcoordinator@playwrightsatlantic.ca to the attention of Joanne Miller with a c.c to PARC’s Artistic Director Jenny Munday at parcdramaturge@playwrightsatlantic.ca.

•Scripts MUST include: page numbers; a title page that includes title, playwright’s name, address, e-mail address and phone number; and a character list indicating casting requirements.

•Please note that playwrights will be expected to attend for the full two week period.

The deadline for submissions is: Friday January 27, 2017.
