PARC PEI Playwriting Workshop with Ryan Griffith

April 07, 2018

PARC PEI to host Ryan Griffith Playwriting Workshop - Don't miss this opportunity! (The workshop is already half full)

This workshop will examine the script as a blueprint, and will focus on breaking down the work of a playwright into three separate skills.

1. Listening – The participants will be introduced to the concept of impulse exploration and deep listening.  Identifying bias will also be examined. They will be given the chance to participate in several exercises that illustrate the usefulness of these concepts, including automatic writing and partnered script writing. (3 hours.)

2.  Gathering Materials – The participants will we introduced to the concept of ethnographic fieldwork and datasurfing. The myth of writer’s block will be explored.  With a focus on providing playwrights new sources of inspiration/materials, participants will have the opportunity to engage in several exercises including: newspaper collaging, automatic fieldwork and found object meditations. (3 hours.)

3.  Performance – Participants will be taught the importance of performing their own work and the work of others, when it comes to writing and rewriting their own scripts. This section will help the playwright to spot problems in their scripts at an early stage and give them tools to fix these problems easily.  In this section, participants will be asked to prepare and share their own work and get the chance to perform the work of others in the class as well. (3 hours.)

The dates of the workshop are April 7 and 8, 2018.
