Jennifer Overton


Jennifer Overton is an actor, writer, and playwright living in Halifax. Her award winning play, God’s Middle Name (Scirocco Drama pub.), produced by In Good Company Theatre, premiered at Eastern Front Theatre’s On the Waterfront Festival and earned the 2007 Robert G. Merritt Award for Outstanding New Play and Outstanding Production, as well as being twice shortlisted for the prestigious Lieutenant Governor’s Masterworks Award. The production went on to Magnetic North and on to a highly successful Canadian national tour. It was invited to Nightwood Theatre’s Groundswell Festival in 2013. An abbreviated version of the play will tour with Theatre New Brunswick’s Young Company in 2014. My Titanic, co-written with husband David Overton, about her experiences working on the blockbuster film, premiered at Eastern Front Theatre’s SuperNova Festival in May 2011. Her TYA play about autism, Spelling 2-5-5, premiered at Carousel Players in 2012 and will have its American premiere at Children’s Theatre of Charlotte in their 2013/14 season and will tour with Tarradiddle Players. Carousel Players will remount their production and tour Eastern Canada in 2014. Jennifer was also a contributing writer for the CBC radio drama, Backbencher. She holds an M.F.A. in Theatre Performance from York University, and spent ten years on faculty in the Theatre Department Acting Program at Dalhousie University.
