Mission

Mandate

Playwrights Atlantic Resource Centre was formed in April of 1991 to address the needs of Atlantic Canadian playwrights and playwriting. Its mandate is three-fold: to assist in the professional development of Atlantic Canadian plays and playwrights, to promote the work of Atlantic Canadian playwrights and Atlantic Canadian Theatres and to document Atlantic Region works of theatre.

Vision Statement

PARC believes that:

  • Play creation is the foundation of theatrical endeavour.
  • Atlantic Canadian playwrights play an important role in the life of Canadian theatre and contribute to the vitality of their communities.
  • Appropriate resources should be available to playwrights to allow their work to achieve a level of excellence that will be recognized within and beyond our region.
  • Our region should be one where everyone has the opportunity to share in the experience of Atlantic Canadian theatre and young people should have the opportunity to be introduced to it at an early age.

Mission Statement

PARC contributes to the development and promotion of Atlantic Canadian plays and playwrights and encourages a sense of community among playwrights.

PARC works in the community to create a climate in which Atlantic Canadian theatre is embraced and celebrated regionally, nationally and internationally.

Artistic Mission

Play creation is viewed by the PARC Board and its members as the foundation of theatrical endeavour. It is around a script that directors, producers, performers, technicians and audiences gather. For the foundation to be sound, it must first, in the case of playwriting, be firmly established and then maintained.

Objectives

  • To facilitate communication among playwrights in Atlantic Canada.
  • To establish contacts with playwrights and playwrights’ organizations across Canada and in other countries.
  • To facilitate the consistent professional development of Atlantic Canada’s playwrights.
  • To facilitate the promotion of Atlantic Canadian playwrights and make available a collection of vital Atlantic Canadian plays.
  • To promote theatre as a vital art form.
  • To promote freedom of expression in theatre in Atlantic Canada.
